Discipleship

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
— Matthew 28:18-20

We believe Jesus’ command to make disciples happens in the context of the local church both corporately and in personal relationships as we seek to follow Him and serve one another. Here are some ways you can both be discipled and disciple others:

  1. Attend the Sunday morning worship service: When we gather to hear God’s Word preached and sung we encourage, exhort, and edify one another. Sing loudly from your heart! Pray with the church. Come prepared to hear God’s Word preached. Stay after the service to talk with members and visitors.

  2. Attend the Education Hour and the Sunday Evening Service: These are more opportunities to build relationships in a context of teaching, prayer, and singing. Bring someone with you and discuss the material after the class!

  3. Pray: Our church directory isn’t just a place for phone numbers, but a tool for praying for each person in the church. If you don’t know the person, pray Scripture over them and then get to know them by sending a note or inviting them over to your home.

  4. Hospitality: Bring others into your life. Invite a visitor, new member, or member you don’t know to your home to get to know them. Hospitality can also include reading Scripture or a Christian book together, inviting out for coffee, or calling on the phone.

  5. Evangelism: Seek out ways to share the good news of Jesus with others. Hospitality and one-on-one Bible reading are good ways to evangelize. Tell church members how they can pray for you in this.

  6. Serve in the church: How can you love and edify others? Ask what the needs are and how you might help.
